Get Deeper Insights into Soil Moisture With Our Multi-Depth Sensor

Experience precise and efficient soil monitoring with our award-winning wireless sensor designed to seamlessly integrate with the HOBOnet system. This durable sensor is engineered to measure soil moisture and temperature at various depths using a single probe, ensuring quick and hassle-free installation.

Available in three probe lengths, this sensor enables measurements up to 90 cm (35 in) deep, catering to diverse agricultural needs. Utilising GroPoint's TDT5 technology with patented antenna design, it delivers comprehensive soil moisture measurements along each probe segment, resulting in accurate and consistent data collection.

This advanced sensor, featuring GroPoint™ TDT technology, is optimized for use within the HOBOnet (HOBO® RX) Wireless Sensor Network, providing wireless data transmission and seamless integration with HOBOlink® web-based software for comprehensive monitoring and analytics.

For optimal installation, we recommend using the optional pilot rod and slide hammer. The PILOT-ROD4 (28") is compatible with the 3-segment and 4-segment sensors (RXW-GP3A and RXW-GP4A), while the PILOT-ROD6 (40") is ideal for the 6-segment sensor (RXW-GP6A), ensuring swift deployment and reliable functionality. We also recommend using Australian made Dormer Soil Augers to create a suitable hole for the soil sensor. OneTemp can supply a suitable auger for your soil type if required. This method will require a soil slurry method to backfill the hole around the sensor.

The HOBOnet system offers a cost-effective and scalable wireless sensor network for web-enabled field condition monitoring, catering to applications such as crop management, research, and greenhouse operations. Its wireless nature allows for the deployment of multiple sensors, facilitating easy monitoring across various points without the constraints of long cables.

Furthermore, seamless integration with HOBOlink, Onset's innovative cloud software platform, allows for easy sensor linking, data access, graph viewing, alarm setup, and data download, enhancing overall monitoring and management capabilities.

Q. How are these sensors installed? Do I need any special tools?

A. For fast and easy installation, with minimal soil disturbance, a pilot rod and slide hammer may be used. An auger may also be used to create a hole for the soil moisture probe. Consult the user manual (in the documentation tab) for more details.

Q. Is calibration required for different soil types?

A. This sensors come factory-calibrated for use in most soils. They can, however, be calibrated for specific soils.

Q. How do I calibrate for specific soil types?

A. The GroPoint user manual provides instructions on how to perform soil-specific calibration using a GP-USB Connect SDI-12 programming tool (available from https://www.gropoint.com/). Refer to Appendix A of the GroPoint manual, available at https://www.gropoint.com/products/soil-sensors/gropoint-profile/ from the Downloads tab.

Q. How deep in the soil should these sensors be placed?

A. This sensors is intended to have the top of the probe near the surface of the soil with the length of the probe determining the lowest depth of the soil moisture and temperature points.
