Agricultural technology, or AgTech for short, encompasses a wide range of tools and services that can be used to help farmers improve their output. This includes everything from weather monitoring to soil moisture sensors to water level solutions.
Agriculture technology (AgTech) is the application of technology to agriculture. It includes everything from precision agriculture — which uses sensors and GPS to monitor crops and optimise irrigation — to livestock management systems that use computer vision and machine learning to identify individual animals and track their health over time.
Precision agriculture is one of the most promising areas of AgTech because it has the potential to dramatically increase crop yields while reducing water usage, pesticide usage, and soil erosion.
Farmers are always looking for ways to increase yield while reducing costs. AgTech can help them do both by providing data that can be used to make more informed decisions about seed selection, planting density, fertiliser application, irrigation, and pest control. In addition, AgTech can help farmers automate tasks saving farmers time and money.
The South Australian Government (PIRSA division) have created AgTech demonstration farms across the state so farmers can access and see new agriculture technology in practice. They can get practical information on how AgTech can tackle everyday farming challenges.
We are excited to be involved at both the Loxton and Struan AgTech demonstration farms, showing our reliable HOBO Weather Station, Soil Monitoring Systems, and also a Water Level Solution at Struan.
