AMETEK Land’s portable Cyclops L family is available in a range of models.

Easy to handle, simple to operate, Cyclops L portable non-contact pyrometers provide precise temperature measurements. Easily take measurements in multiple locations and verify on-line pyrometer readings. Durable, yet light weight construction means you can operate it for hours at a time without fatigue.

Designed for single-handed use, Cyclops L’s high-resolution lens sighting and an ergonomic one-handed use design, make it simple for you to take safe, accurate temperature readings in hostile environments where you will have a spare hand to steady yourself.

With four, trigger-controlled data-logging modes available, Cyclops L stores up to 9,999 readings internally. Later the recorded data can transferred via Bluetooth or USB to a PC running free Cyclops Logger software to view, analyse the temperature readings.

Several models are available for the specific process challenges of liquid metal, high temperature, medium temperature and furnace applications, Cyclops L provide highly accurate temperature measurements for the glass, hydrocarbon processing, industrial processing and steel industries.

Highly Portable Accuracy

Cyclops L function for extended periods, with on-board data storage allowing up to 9,999 measurement points to be recorded inside the thermometer. A rugged instrument jacket protects Cyclops L against harsh conditions.

Easy to Operate

Cyclops L range is easy to use – High quality, Through the Lens (TTL) sighting means that you simply look through the eyepiece and focus the lens on the desired target. A small graticule within the view exactly defines the area that's being measured. Then simply pull the trigger. Switch between four modes for data-logging. Temperature readings are displayed within the eyepiece and simultaneously on a second display panel on the instrument's side. This allows a colleague standing next to you to also view the readings. Wireless Bluetooth data transmission further enhances the Cyclops operation.

Unique Route Management

Ideal for regular monitoring of sites with multiple measurement locations and verifying readings of permanently installed pyrometers,. Free to download Cyclops Logger software provides configurable measurement routes for your process, uploadable to your thermometer. Pre-configured settings include emissivity and window correction for each measurement location.

Free software utility enabling Cyclops L portable pyrometer users to view, analyse and save measurement data.

Cyclops Logger software allows users to store, view, analyse and record temperature data acquired by our full range of Cyclops L portable pyrometers.

Free to download to Windows PC or Android mobile device, Cyclops Logger records instantaneous temperature measurements each time the thermometer trigger is pressed, providing the option of live data analysis - as well as allowing stored data to be transferred to your device.

Simply connect via Bluetooth or USB, and a sequence (route) of measurement points for your plant or process can be configured in the software and uploaded back to Cyclops L.

Ideal for plants using multiple measurement locations, the software is compatible with Cyclops L models used for heat treating, reformer tubes, industrial processing and steel industry applications. It also works in a lesser featured capacity with the older Cyclops B range.

UNIQUE ROUTE MODE

Upload up to nine regular measurement routes, each with up to 99 locations. This allows consistent measurements at the same points, with Cyclops settings pre-configured for each site in the logger software before upload.

SAFE OPERATION IN DIFFICULT CONDITIONS

Wireless Bluetooth or USB make connection easy, allowing measurements to be taken remotely from the PC or mobile device: ideal for situations where safety is an issue or the measurement location is difficult to access.

EXTENSIVE MEASUREMENT MODES

Measurement modes include instantaneous, peak, valley, average and Meltmaster (for 055L). Current reading, table view and trend view display options are all available.

Cyclops Logger is AMETEK Land’s software for connecting a portable pyrometer to a PC or mobile device for temperature reading analysis.

How To Achieve The Best Temperature Measurement Accuracy From Your Cyclops L?

Written by Land Instruments. View full article >>

Like all other measuring instruments, the Cyclops L Portable Non-Contact Thermometer has an accuracy stated in its technical specifications.

CO55L:   <±0.5% (K)
C100L:    ≤±0.25% (K)
C160L:    ± 0.25% C + 2 °C
C390L:    ±0.5% (K)

These accuracies are fully verifiable and traceable to national and international standards. The instruments are calibrated in accordance with controlled procedures, governing the calibration condition, and the use of standards and equipment traceable to national and international standards. The accuracies specified are based on readings taken from a traceable blackbody radiation source with effective emissivity 1.00.

Once the pyrometer is transferred to an industrial application, additional influences can affect the instrument's reading. These additional errors are not from the instrument itself but operator settings and application conditions and are called "systematical errors". These systematical errors can reduce measurement accuracy.

What can increase systematical errors?

  • An incorrect emissivity setting can lead to measurement error. C055L, C100L and C160L have excellent sensitivities, which can help minimise the magnitude of error associated with incorrectly estimated emissivity settings. The C390L has other application benefits.
  • An "estimated" emissivity value is set in the Cyclops L pyrometer, but the object's emissivity changes (e.g., by growing or changing oxide layers). We recommend that the emissivity setting is determined and fixed for measurement points within the application.
  • There is steam or dust within the instrument's field of view, and the optical path is being obscured or obstructed.

What steps to take to minimise systematical errors?

  • Using the Cyclops L pyrometer to measure a surface temperature, of which the emissivity is well known and set to the correct emissivity within the instrument.
  • Not having any obstructions in the optical path, like dust, steam, obstacles, dirty optics, emissivity changes, low viewing angles or background reflections.
  • Using the Average or Peak temperature measuring mode to eliminate some of the errors.
  • Clean the protection window before use.
